Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich warned during an appearance on FOX News’ Hannity that an increasingly radical wing of socialist candidates is pushing the Democratic Party toward a historic collapse.
Gingrich’s Warning
Gingrich agreed with host Sean Hannity’s assessment that no major political party has moved as far to the political extremes in the last 150 years. He argued that voters will soon face a stark choice between a “common sense, productive Republican Party” and a Democratic counterpart that has combined big-government socialism with highly unconventional social values.
Gingrich pointed to data gathered by America’s New Majority Project, which has tracked voter sentiment since 2018. The project looks specifically for unifying issues that secure 75% to 85% public approval. In contrast, the policy platforms pushed by democratic socialists like Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and New York Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani pull only 10% to 15% support nationwide.
Radical Policies
Gingrich criticized energy and climate proposals that he claimed would lead to strict regulations on everyday comforts like air conditioning. “Socialism takes power from you,” Gingrich said. “They take care of the powerful. They take care of the guys with connections. And they rip off the rest of us.”
Hannity expanded the critique to a broader roster of progressive figures, listing politicians like Senator Bernie Sanders, Texas Representative James Talarico, and members of the congressional “Squad.” He highlighted local progressive victories where candidates ran on platforms calling for the abolition of police, the elimination of prisons, open borders, and the government seizure of private property and the means of production.
