The Paris Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), a Bourbon County nonprofit, has been inundated with cats and kittens, taking in 60 over the last two weeks. Hailey Scott with PAWS described the situation as ‘hectic,’ with many sick strays and a high volume of cats, exceeding the number of dogs.
Kitten Season Challenges
According to Scott, the organization is in the midst of kitten season, which typically runs from March to October. She emphasized the importance of spaying and neutering, as cats can become pregnant at just five months old. PAWS offers in-county spaying and neutering services for cats, with prices starting at $21.20 for feral cats and $42.40 for indoor cats, including vaccines and a microchip.
PAWS is currently accepting monetary donations, as well as kitten food, cat food, and dog food, to support their efforts in caring for the influx of cats and kittens.
