Eddie’s Fireworks, a family-owned business in Johnson County, is celebrating its 50th anniversary of selling fireworks. The business was started by Eddie and Jennifer Shay in 1976 and has since been passed down to their son, Adam.
A Family Tradition
Adam Shay, who now runs the business, started selling fireworks as a child. He recalls the early days of the business, when he and his siblings would help their parents sell fireworks from their uncle’s garage in Edgerton.
Despite the challenges they faced, including rising permit costs and changing regulations, the family has continued to operate the business, which has become a staple in the community. The business has expanded to multiple locations, including Spring Hill and Gardner, and has become a popular destination for families looking to purchase fireworks.
Giving Back to the Community
Eddie Shay, the founder of the business, has always made it a point to give back to the community. He has passed on this lesson to his children, who continue to operate the business with a focus on community involvement. The business has become a part of the community’s fabric, with many customers returning year after year to purchase fireworks.
One customer, Erica Faunce, has been shopping at Eddie’s Fireworks for over a decade. She praises the business for its great prices and friendly staff. Her son, Lane, enjoys picking out fireworks with his dad and setting them off on the Fourth of July.
As the business looks to the future, Adam Shay hopes to continue the legacy his parents built. He wants to pass on the lessons he learned from his parents to his own children and grandchildren, and to continue to serve the community with the same level of dedication and commitment.
