Record-breaking rainfall in June has made weather conditions safer for fireworks this year in the Texarkana area, but those celebrating the Fourth of July should still use caution.
Fire Safety Precautions
Texarkana Arkansas Fire Chief David Fletcher noted that conditions are better this year due to the rain, but hot weather and wind have dried everything out a little. Texarkana Texas Fire Chief Chris Black also advised people to use caution when using fireworks.
It is illegal to possess or shoot off fireworks in the city limits of Texarkana, Texas, and Texarkana, Arkansas. If shooting them off in rural areas, weather conditions should always be considered, as hot, dry, and windy conditions can increase fire danger, officials said.
Texas A&M Forest Service recommends checking restrictions and burn bans before using fireworks and following safety tips such as reading and following manufacturer instructions, keeping a water source nearby, and wearing eye protection.
