The city of Nevada is coming together to rebuild the iconic Starbuck’s Drive-In, a 70-year-old restaurant that was damaged in a recent fire. City leaders and the restaurant’s owners have announced plans to rebuild the beloved business, with the city proposing to use money from its demolition fund to pay for demolishing the damaged building.
Community Support
A local 3D design professional has volunteered to create building plans at no cost, and city leaders hope other businesses and contractors will donate services as the project moves forward. The community is also establishing a fund to accept donations for the rebuilding effort, with the goal of preserving the restaurant’s historic character while adding new features such as indoor seating and expanded outdoor seating.
The restaurant, which was founded in 1956 by Darrell Starbuck, has become a community landmark known for its food and ice cream. Current owner Anna Sayre and business manager Evelyn Yoder are working closely with city officials to ensure the rebuilding process is successful.
RAGBRAI’s stop in Nevada on July 22 is expected to serve as the kickoff for a major fundraising effort, with organizers planning a Starbuck’s fundraiser during the event. The city is confident that the community will come together to support the rebuilding of this beloved institution.
