Moxie, a five-month-old rescue puppy from Iowa, is recovering from a five-hour surgery to address congenital heart defects. The puppy had five serious congenital heart defects and underwent the specialized surgery in Ames.
Successful Surgery
The shelter where Moxie is being cared for, Animal Lifeline of Iowa, reported that an echocardiogram before discharge showed the pressure across her pulmonic valve has been reduced by more than 50%. The cardiologist said this is an excellent outcome, and relieving the valve is expected to make a big difference in how her heart functions and will improve her quality of life.
Moxie will be on strict activity restriction for five days post-procedure. After that, she will be able to return to normal puppy activities. Animal Lifeline of Iowa is raising money to help cover the costs of the procedure.
