Residents in a Leesburg neighborhood are facing difficulties after their community mailboxes were damaged, leaving them without access to their mail for nearly two weeks. The cluster mailboxes, located near the corner of Goss Avenue and Bentley Road, were damaged on June 20 when a driver struck them, according to resident Timothy West.
More than 30 homes are affected by the damaged mailboxes, and residents must now travel about two miles to a nearby post office to retrieve their mail. West expressed concern for his elderly and disabled neighbors who may not be able to make the trip.
Neighbor Marleen Blake also expressed concern about the damaged mailboxes, citing the potential danger they pose to children in the area. West has shared the neighborhood’s concerns with postal workers, who informed him that repairs could take weeks or even months.
West hopes that the U.S. Postal Service will consider delivering mail directly to affected homes in the meantime. The U.S. Postal Service was contacted for comment but stopped responding after initially looking into the matter.
