Cathi Carr, a candidate for Natrona County Board of Commissioners, recently responded to a questionnaire about her campaign. Carr highlighted the challenges facing Natrona County, including limited economic growth, low employee retention, aging infrastructure, and decreasing tax revenues.
Challenges Facing Natrona County
Carr noted that these challenges are interconnected. With lower property taxes and sales tax revenue, the county will need to reduce spending, leading to smaller raises for county employees. This, in turn, causes the county to lose employees to other employment opportunities, requiring the county to hire and train new employees.
Carr emphasized the need to recruit new industries and support new technology for local businesses. She believes that Natrona County should be leading the country and the state in advancements in energy technology while welcoming new industries.
Addressing Challenges
If elected, Carr plans to encourage open communication among neighbors and work with the community and business leaders to bring in new industries. She believes that this will increase tax revenue, allowing the county to increase wages for county employees and create capital funding for infrastructure.
Carr acknowledged that this process will not be fast or easy, requiring a determined and dedicated commission to develop a plan for the future. She emphasized the need for Natrona County to look outside its core industries to avoid falling behind in technology and growth.
Qualifications
Carr has lived in Natrona County for over 40 years and works as an oil and gas accountant. She has served as a precinct committeewoman since 2022 and is the treasurer for the Natrona Republican Party. Carr has also served on the Citizen’s Transportation Advisory Board and the Natrona County Public Library Board of Trustees.
