The Montgomery Police Department is reminding residents that it is illegal to shoot fireworks within city limits as celebrations ramp up for America’s 250th birthday.
Enforcing City Ordinances
MPD says officers will be enforcing city ordinances to make sure the July 4th holiday is safe for everyone. Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys says it is illegal for people to possess, sell, use, or explode fireworks within the city of Montgomery.
"Firing a weapon into the air is a serious threat to human life," says Graboys. "The Montgomery Police Department will respond firmly to anyone who violates this law. We will take every necessary action to protect the residents of this city."
Graboys says anyone who violates the ordinance will be arrested, and could face up to 6 months in jail and up to $500 in fines.
