The US men’s soccer team defeated Bosnia-Herzegovina 2-0 on Wednesday night, advancing to the round of 16 in the World Cup. Folarin Balogun scored his third goal of the tournament before being sent off with a red card in the second half. Malik Tillman converted on a free kick to give the 10-man US squad the win.

US Team Performance

The US team dominated the first half with Balogun’s goal and several other chances. However, they had to scramble down a man after Balogun’s foul against Tarik Muharemovic in the 64th minute. Tillman helped seal the win when he scored on a free kick from just outside the box in the 82nd minute.

The win gave the US its second World Cup knockout round win. The Americans made it to the semifinals in the first tournament in 1930 by winning their group and won a round of 16 matchup against Mexico in 2002. The US will face Belgium in the next round on Monday in Seattle.
