President Donald Trump suggested that he would give himself and either Eric Trump or Donald Trump Jr. the Congressional Medal of Honor to become part of what would be the third father-son pair to be given the award.
Medal of Honor
The Medal of Honor is the nation’s highest military honor and is intended to honor servicemembers that distinguish themselves in combat “conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty.”
Trump made the comment at the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library in Medora, North Dakota, on July 1. He also mentioned that he would give one of his sons the award for their “genius at hunting” and that he would get one for taking on “Russia, Russia, Russia” or something.
Theodore Roosevelt is the only president to have received the Medal of Honor, awarded to him in 2001 by then President Bill Clinton for leading a charge up San Juan Hill in Cuba during the Spanish-American War.
