Garden City residents are being warned about the presence of invasive snapping turtles in the area. The Mayor of Garden City, Bill Jacobs, has cautioned the public to be careful as these turtles can have a nasty bite.
Invasive Species Alert
Snapping turtles are not native to Idaho and can negatively impact local fish, amphibians, and other wildlife. They are considered an invasive species and can survive well in the winter, making it easy for them to thrive in the Treasure Valley.
If you spot a snapping turtle, you are advised to call Idaho Fish and Game at 1-877-336-8676 for further instructions. It is also important not to release snapping turtles into the wild, whether they are captured or kept as pets.
