Ame, a resident of Dayton, Ohio, was frantic when her kitten, Lucy, went missing. The family had been searching for Lucy, but to no avail. That was when Ame turned to Petco Love Lost, a nationwide database that uses AI photo-matching technology to connect lost pets with their owners.
How Petco Love Lost Worked
Ame created a lost pet profile and uploaded Lucy’s picture to the database. The system uses over 500 visual markers to identify pets by their features. Soon after, a finder uploaded a photo of a cat that looked like Lucy, and the system connected the two.
The finder had discovered Lucy stuck under the hood of a car in a shopping center across the highway from Ame’s home. Thankfully, Lucy was unharmed, and the finder kept her safe until Ame could be reunited with her.
A Happy Reunion
Ame was overjoyed to be reunited with Lucy, and her children were thrilled to have their beloved pet back home. The family was grateful for the Petco Love Lost service, which had brought them back together.
July is National Lost Pet Prevention Month, and Petco Love encourages pet owners to register their pets on their database to prevent similar situations in the future.
