A $5 million donation from Ross and Sue Sprovieri will support the construction of a specialized autism recreation complex, including an aquatics center, on the Els for Autism Foundation’s Jupiter campus.
Recreation Complex Details
The recreation complex will feature a teaching kitchen, a movement studio, and a basketball area, among other facilities. The aquatics center will include a pool, a teaching area, and a splash pad, which will enhance the foundation’s ability to teach water safety and swimming skills to children with autism.
According to the Autism Society, children with autism are 160 times more likely to drown than children without autism. The aquatics center aims to address this issue by providing a safe and supportive environment for children with autism to learn water safety skills.
The Els for Autism Foundation, founded in 2009, serves thousands of people with autism of all ages in 38 countries worldwide. The recreation complex is the newest addition to its mission, and it is scheduled to open in the spring of next year.
