US Response
The US has mobilized $150 million in humanitarian relief and assembled a Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) with over 250 people, including three Urban Search-and-Rescue (USAR) teams. The US military has also assisted with logistics.
Despite initial opposition from some US politicians, including Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Rashida Tlaib, who questioned the legality of the US’s actions in Venezuela, the relief efforts have been well-received by the Venezuelan people.
Venezuelan Government Cooperation
Venezuela’s Supreme Court has installed Delcy Rodríguez as the country’s interim president, and diplomatic relations with the US have been restored. The US views this cooperation as temporary and does not recognize Rodríguez’s presidency as a permanent solution.
