Consumer Reports recently tested various refrigerators to determine which ones perform the best. The testing process involved using 15 temperature sensors to monitor the temperature in each fridge over a month. The sensors were placed in different areas of the fridge, including the freezer, where they were inserted into spinach to get an accurate reading.
Testing Methodology
The testers also conducted humidity tests by stimulating vegetables and fruits with sponges and water, then weighing them to see how much water they retained over time. Additionally, the refrigerators were tested in temperature-controlled chambers to simulate different environments, such as a hot garage in the summer.
The top-performing French door refrigerator was the Whirlpool WRFF3736SZ, which scored a 78 overall. The best side-by-side refrigerator was the GE GSE23GGPWW, which scored a 74. The Samsung RT70F18LRSR was rated the best top freezer refrigerator, scoring an 82.
