Kathie Lee Gifford, a well-known television personality, has been open about her struggles with chronic pain and multiple surgeries. In a recent interview, she shared that she had been misdiagnosed for nearly a year, being treated for a spinal issue when the real problem was with her hip.
Chronic Pain and Misdiagnosis
Gifford explained that she had been experiencing debilitating pain, which made everyday activities challenging. She said, ‘I wanted to die a few times… I wasn’t going to hurt myself. I wasn’t going to kill myself. I just didn’t want to be here — as blessed as I am.’
After finally undergoing hip surgery, Gifford discovered that her hip was severely damaged, with the doctor describing it as ‘one of the worst hips I’ve ever seen.’ The surgery was followed by a series of setbacks, including a fractured hip, a broken arm, and cataract surgery.
Recovery and Faith
Throughout her journey, Gifford has relied on her faith to cope with the emotional and physical pain. She recalled praying, ‘Lord, if this is all you have left for me, I want to go home.’ However, with the support of her family, medical team, and faith, Gifford is now on the road to recovery.
Gifford is grateful to be spending time with her five young grandchildren, saying, ‘I’m hoping, Lord willing, that I have many, many years with them.’ Her experience has reminded her of the importance of perseverance and trust in a higher power.
