The United Arab Emirates has launched its first national passenger rail service, connecting 11 cities across the region. The initial phase of the express train network opened to the public, with the first service running from Fujairah to Mohammed Bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi.
Network Details
The network will be extended later this year, with Dubai Train Station and Al Dhaid Train Station opening on September 30, followed by stations in Al Dhafra three months later. The overall route will be completed at the end of March next year with the opening of the Sharjah station.
Fares start at AED55 ($15) for Comfort Class and AED120 ($33) for Premium Class. The firm’s fleet comprises 13 trains, each with a capacity for 400 passengers. The 900-kilometer network is part of a wider plan to reduce the UAE’s carbon footprint and develop a sustainable transport system.
