According to the National Retail Federation’s annual survey, 62% of Americans plan to host a barbecue, cookout, picnic, or other food-related event this Independence Day. This is a slight increase from last year, when 61% of respondents said they planned to host a food-related event for the holiday.
Celebration Costs
On average, consumers are expected to spend $94.41 on food for the celebration, the highest recorded since 2014. In total, consumers will spend $9.4 billion on food for July 4, nearly 6% more than last year.
Despite higher food costs, 87% of consumers plan to celebrate the holiday this year, with some planning to attend community events, parades, or fireworks displays. The survey polled about 7,700 consumers about their plans for celebrating the Fourth of July.
