Tucson vigil for 3-year-old Anna Garcia spurs calls to curb street racing

Several hundred people gathered at Silverlake Park on the evening of April 16, 2026, to hold a candlelight vigil for three-year-old Anna Garcia. The community turned out to honor her memory and support her family following the fatal crash that claimed her life six days earlier.

Friends and relatives stood close together as Anna’s older sister, Emme, and other young children sought comfort from one another. Parents Brianda Guerrero and Emmanuel Garcia addressed the crowd, receiving hugs and words of condolence as neighbors and friends offered their support during the difficult evening.

A framed photo of Anna sat among vases of flowers and rows of burning candles at a makeshift memorial. Attendees placed flowers and lit candles while quietly paying their respects, creating a circle of remembrance around the picture and mementos left by those who came to mourn.

The community’s gathering came after a high-speed vehicle collision on April 10 at Valencia Road and Country Club Road that resulted in Anna’s death. Many who attended the vigil described coming to grieve with the family and to stand with them in the days following the tragedy.

Anna’s passing has resonated across Tucson, sparking widespread calls for action to address dangerous street racing and reckless driving. Thousands have voiced support for stricter enforcement and measures aimed at preventing similar tragedies from happening to other families.
