Fans of Jordan’s national soccer team gathered at Levitt Pavilion in Dallas to watch the team take on Argentina in the World Cup. Despite being eliminated from the tournament, the team’s supporters were filled with pride and enthusiasm.
A Historic Moment
For Alaa Alnemry, an Arlington resident born in Jordan, the team’s participation in the World Cup was a remarkable achievement. ‘As a really small country with very limited economical power, for us to make it to the World Cup, I think it’s amazing,’ she said.
Karina Ruvalcaba, who became a fan of the national team through her Jordanian husband, showed her support by wearing a red-and-white keffiyeh and painting flags on her face. ‘100%,’ she said of her support for Jordan, repeating the phrase in Arabic.
The crowd erupted in euphoria when Jordan forward Mousa Altamari scored a goal, making the moment unforgettable for fans like Alnemry and 16-year-old Salwa Baniissa, who drove from Houston to attend the event.
Although Jordan’s World Cup journey has come to an end, fans remain proud of their team’s historic achievement. ‘Even if we were eliminated, we made history,’ Alnemry said. ‘We made a part of history.’
