Denver Mayor Mike Johnston has introduced a new program called ‘Mayor’s Park $5’ to encourage people to visit downtown Denver. The program offers $5 parking at about 3,000 parking spots in privately owned lots around the city.
Program Details
The discounted rates are available on weekends, nights, Mondays, and Fridays. Mayor Johnston explained that the idea is to provide a simple and affordable flat rate with an easy-to-use process.
The program is a response to calls for help from downtown restaurants struggling to attract customers. Many restaurants have been pushing the mayor to address the issue of difficult parking, which has been deterring people from visiting their establishments.
Participating Lot Owners
The participating lot owners include Metropolis, Interstate Parking, ParkWell, LAZ, Time Park, VPNE, and PNC. The city is partnering with SpotHero, an online parking aggregation platform, to run the promotion.
Users will have to use the SpotHero app to find and get the $5 rates. Some of the owners already used SpotHero to market their lots online, while others signed up with the platform to participate in the program.
The city is not paying SpotHero or the lots for the program, but it is spending a couple of hundred dollars on printing stickers and other promotional materials.
