The Obama Presidential Center in Chicago’s Woodlawn neighborhood is launching a free summer program series, called ‘You Are America,’ to commemorate the nation’s 250th anniversary. The series kicks off with a July Fourth celebration, The People’s Fourth, featuring live music, self-guided tours, and activities across the campus.
Summer Events
Other events in the program include an art talk with center-commissioned artist Mark Bradford, live sets celebrating Chicago House Music, and a symposium connecting civic involvement with history and the arts. The center will also host garden gatherings with the Urban Growers Collective every other week from July 12 to September 20.
The center’s ‘Movies on the Plaza’ series will begin on July 21 with a screening of ‘Hamilton.’ In August, a karaoke celebration will honor former President Barack Obama’s birthday, and a celebration of Chicago’s diverse food culture will feature a panel of chefs and prepared dishes.
