A JetBlue Airways passenger jet reported striking a drone on Monday while preparing to land at John F. Kennedy International Airport, the Federal Aviation Administration confirmed.
The pilot aboard JetBlue Flight 948 reported the strike at approximately 3,000 feet in altitude while on final approach to the runway around 7:15 a.m. local time on Monday, the FAA told CNN in a statement.

The Airbus A321 was arriving from Las Vegas and safely landed minutes later at 7:21 a.m. The aircraft was just north of the beach community of Sea Bright, roughly 10 to 12 miles away from JFK, at the time of the suspected strike, according to data from Flightradar24.
If confirmed, it could be one of the first known collisions between a drone and a U.S. commercial passenger plane. The FAA is investigating the incident.
In a statement, JetBlue confirmed the flight landed without further incident. “Customers deplaned normally and the plane was removed from service for a post-flight inspection, which found no damage or evidence of a collision,” the airline said. “Safety is JetBlue’s first priority, and we will assist with any relevant investigations.”
