Former University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino gave an emotional tribute at Kenny Klein’s funeral Monday morning. Klein’s funeral was held at St. Raphael Church, where friends and family gathered to remember his life and legacy.
Pitino remembered the legacy Klein left behind during a speech at the funeral. He began with a lighthearted story about Kenny’s time in New York with Pitino and some of the memories they shared. “Kenny Klein elevated all of us,” Pitino said in his speech.
Pitino and Klein worked together for 17 years, at UofL and later, at St. John’s. Pitino said the two were inseparable for the last two years in New York. “There’s no better husband. There’s no better friend. There’s no better SID to the media. There’s no better meeting a person on the street than Kenny Klein with that smile,” Pitino said.
Pitino went on to say Klein was the most special person he met. “Kenny, I’m never going to say goodbye to you. I’m going to look over that empty seat to the left,” Pitino said.
