Toyota Motor reported a 7.2% year-on-year decline in global sales for May, with decreases in China, the US, and the Middle East weighing on overall results.
Global sales fell to 834,279 vehicles, with overseas sales dropping 9.6% and sales in Japan rising 11.1% due to strong demand for models like the RAV4 and bZ4X.
Sales in China plummeted 31.7% amid tough market conditions, partly due to rising petrol prices, while sales in the Middle East slumped 38.6%. In the US, Toyota’s top market, sales edged down 0.6%.
Toyota’s global production declined 5.5% from a year earlier, with a 3.8% drop in the US and a 13.3% decrease in Asia offset by a rise in Japan.
