A plane crash occurred in Wake County near Knightdale on May 27, according to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The pilot, Luis Quijano, was performing an introductory flight for a prospective student pilot, John Wellman, when the plane experienced engine trouble.
The plane took off from Cox Airport in Cary and was heading to East Raleigh Airport in Knightdale when the pilot heard a ‘sputtering’ sound. Despite attempts to land safely, the plane collided with a trailer and fell 30 feet before hitting the ground.
Both Quijano and Wellman were taken to WakeMed for their injuries. The NTSB is investigating the cause of the crash.
