President Donald Trump recently surveyed several of his construction projects around the nation’s capital, including the redevelopment of the East Potomac Golf Links. He suggested that the renovation would enable the course to host premier golf tournaments, such as the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship.
Golf Course Renovation Plans
Trump toured the course with Interior Secretary Doug Burgum and golf course architect Tom Fazio. The president’s redevelopment of the course is subject to a lawsuit in U.S. District Court. The president complained about the condition of the grass and the sprinkler system, and noted that debris from the demolition of the White House East Wing has been dumped on the grounds.
According to the National Park Service, the debris tested positive for lead, chromium, and other toxic metals. Trump said that work on the golf course would begin on September 1. The president also toured updates to Lafayette Park and had his motorcade drive around the area where he plans to build a triumphal arch.
