At least four people were shot after hundreds of people had gathered in Brockton, Massachusetts, following a FIFA World Cup match late Friday night. The large group was in the Main Street area when there were multiple reports of gunfire shortly before midnight.
Investigation Underway
Officers responded to the intersection of Main and Park streets and found at least four people with gunshot wounds. All four were taken to local hospitals for treatment. There was no immediate word on the victims’ injuries, and police haven’t announced any arrests.
Brockton is home to the biggest Cape Verdean population in the U.S. and locals were celebrating Friday night after Cape Verde made history by becoming the smallest country to earn a spot in the World Cup knockout round.
