Lincoln Park Neighbors Protest Noisy Music Festival

Lincoln Park neighbors are speaking out against a recent electronic dance music festival that drew noise complaints from residents. The Lakeshore Music & Arts Festival, held at an event space near North Pond, featured 10 DJs and over 50 Chicago-based electronic music artists.

Concerns Over Noise and Disruption

Residents complained about the loud bass sounds that reverberated for eight hours each day, with some saying it was disturbing and gave them headaches. Cathie Sekendur, a Lincoln Park resident, said she felt the bass beating in her chest while sitting at a park bench and described the volume as “unacceptable”.

Ald. Timmy Knudsen (43rd) has vowed to prevent large-scale music festivals in his ward, citing concerns over noise, security, traffic, and siting. Knudsen’s office did not approve the festival and is working with the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs to prevent future festivals.

Community Reaction

Some neighbors have applauded Knudsen’s decision, while others have deemed it excessive. Robert Walton, a Lakeview resident, said he was disappointed by the backlash against the event and felt that it was an overreaction. Bridgitte Buchanan, a Lincoln Park resident and EDM fan, said she thinks Knudsen’s effort to disallow future music festivals is a “cop-out” and fails to recognize the root of the issues.
