Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon, describing it as a first step toward peace. The agreement was signed by Yechiel Leiter, the Israeli ambassador to the US, and Nada Hamadeh, the Lebanese ambassador to the US.
Details of the Agreement
Hamadeh stated that the framework is a first step on the road to restoring Lebanese sovereignty and territorial integrity, securing a permanent and final cessation of hostilities. Leiter said the final destination of the framework is peace between the two countries, where both countries will live in security and their sovereignty will be respected.
The agreement excludes Iran and Hezbollah, with Leiter stating that ‘Iran is out. Hezbollah is out. And the road to peace between Israel and Lebanon is in.’
