A recent survey of 500 employees in Florida found that 23% would reject a promotion that comes with increased AI-driven performance tracking, heavier productivity monitoring, and pressure to deliver more output using AI tools without receiving additional support.
Concerns Over AI-Driven Workplace
The study, conducted by Careerminds, a global outplacement and career development firm, suggests that employees are making a practical calculation about what a modern promotion actually entails. They are evaluating whether moving up means becoming heavily monitored and held accountable for automated systems that they do not fully control.
Prior to the widespread adoption of AI, career advancement typically meant more visibility and higher corporate expectations. However, in today’s corporate environment, a new title often brings algorithmic performance scoring, productivity dashboards, and automated monitoring.
Amanda Augustine, a Certified Professional Career Coach and resident career expert for Careerminds, noted that employers can no longer assume a higher position is an automatic win for their staff. “Promotions have traditionally been viewed as an automatic win for employees, but these findings suggest many workers are taking a much closer look at what that next step actually means for their day-to-day quality of life,” Augustine said.
