The Goldfish Swim School in Montgomery has taken part in the “World’s Largest Swimming Lesson,” a worldwide event that promotes water safety in teaching children how to keep their head above the waves.
Teaching Water Safety
At the swim school, children received free swimming lessons, and parents also participated in teaching their children how to swim with the trainer. Babies as young as four months old were able to take part in the event.
According to Katlyn Medina of Goldfish Swim School, “It’s very, very important we start as young as four months, and yeah, I don’t think that’s ever a time that is too soon to start. Drowning is actually the leading cause of death in children ages 1 to 4, and with formal swim lessons, the risk is reduced down by 88%, so it makes a huge difference. We like to have fun here, but they are actually learning safety skills.”
