Path to the Round of 32
The U.S. team won Group D without kicking a ball, following a 4-1 win over Paraguay and a 2-0 victory over Australia. Meanwhile, Bosnia and Herzegovina opened the tournament with a 1-1 draw against Canada, lost 4-1 to Switzerland, and then rebounded with a 3-1 win over Qatar to secure their spot in the Round of 32.
Bosnia and Herzegovina, ranked No. 62 by FIFA, is led by veteran defender Sead Kolasinac and 40-year-old striker Edin Dzeko. The team made its first World Cup appearance in 2014 but failed to advance past the group stage.
The U.S. men’s national team, on the other hand, made it to the Round of 16 in the previous World Cup in Qatar but lost to the Netherlands. The team’s best finish was in the first World Cup in 1930, where it came in third out of 13 teams.
