Casper Pride is working with local businesses to offer the community a free book and a free ticket to a baseball game on Friday, in an event dubbed ‘Big Gay Day.’ The nonprofit organization is partnering with the Casper Spuds to offer one free ticket and one free ballpark meal to whomever presents a voucher they received at Casper Pride Fest.

Book Crawl and Baseball Game

The event will take place at the VIP Party Deck at Mike Lansing Field, where attendees will watch the game beginning at 6:30 p.m. In addition to the baseball game, Casper Pride is also buying the community a free book (or three) from local bookstores, including Wind City Books, Bookin’ It, and The Dreadful Bookshop.

“We have coffee with our Rainbow Pioneers once a month, and a couple of them had just mentioned how fun it’d be to go to a baseball game with everyone,” said Mallory Pollock, the executive director of Casper Pride. “On the very last day of Pride planning, the staff remembered that and so we shot off a message to see what the chances were of being able to pull something like that off real quick.”

Partnership with Local Businesses

Kristi Hack, owner of the Casper Spuds, said that she and her team are happy to support the community and partner with Casper Pride. “We had a great conversation and we thought it was a great idea. Paul and I are not opposed to groups that want to come out and watch baseball and take part in what we’re doing for the community. And if we can help in any way, we’re happy to do it!”

Local bookstore owners, including Miranda Berdahl of Wind City Books, Kristy Bussey of Bookin’ It, and Trinity Beck of The Dreadful Bookshop, are also excited to participate in the event. “I want to make sure people know that my space is a space for everyone,” said Beck. “There’s no judgment, it’s welcoming to everyone.”
