Paul Goldschmidt turned in a vintage power performance Wednesday night in Detroit, and the Yankees took the rubber match because of it. New York beat the Tigers 4-2, with Goldschmidt going two for four with two home runs and two RBI — both off Cy Young candidate Tarik Skubal, who was otherwise sharp, striking out nine over six innings.
Jasson Domínguez also went deep, and Ryan Weathers turned in a strong start of his own — six innings, one run, six strikeouts — to pick up the win. David Bednar and the bullpen locked it down from there.
It’s a series win for New York, taking two of three from a tough Tigers club. New York now heads to Boston for a four-game series with the Red Sox, starting tonight.
