Claiborne Parish officials have closed Lake Claiborne as heavy rainfall across the ArkLaTex region has caused floodwaters to rise, threatening infrastructure.
Floodwaters have covered sections of highways 2 and 79, causing significant travel concerns. Claiborne Parish Sheriff Sam Dowies issued a warning to residents to exercise extreme caution and avoid unnecessary travel.
“We ask everybody to stay off the roads as much as they can and stay out of the low-lying areas,” Dowies said.
The sheriff’s office is urging residents to reserve emergency lines for critical situations only.
