Elena Katherine Moore, a 39-year-old fitness trainer from South Carolina, was found dead on June 17, nearly a week after she disappeared from a Planet Fitness gym in Lexington.
Investigation Ongoing
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office stated that a forensic autopsy did not reveal any signs of external injuries, including bruising, lacerations, or gunshot wounds. The cause of death is still pending as investigators await additional testing and a review of Moore’s medical records.
Moore had made cryptic comments on Instagram around three weeks before her body was discovered. In one comment, she stated, ‘i am finally free and safe!’ under a post about finding peace after a difficult relationship. In another comment, she mentioned being in a relationship with ‘the devil’ and looking for a way out.
A friend of Moore’s, Sondra Campbell, reported that Moore was scared for her life and had checked herself into a psychiatric facility before her disappearance. The Lexington Police Department is handling the investigation, with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division assisting.
