Stillman College has hired Deon Washington to coach the Tigers’ inaugural women’s flag football team, according to a release from athletic director Terrance Whittle.

Women’s flag football will become Stillman’s 12th active intercollegiate sport when the season begins in Spring 2027. This will be the NAIA’s inaugural championship season for women’s flag football, with more than 60 teams expected to compete this spring.

Stillman announced the addition of its 12th intercollegiate sport in December 2025, becoming the first NAIA women’s flag football program in the state of Alabama.

The addition of women’s flag football is an exciting step forward for Stillman College Athletics, and Coach Washington will be instrumental in building the program’s foundation. He brings the leadership, energy, and commitment needed to create a culture that reflects the values of Stillman College, according to Whittle.

This is an exciting opportunity to begin the women’s flag football program at Stillman College. As an alumnus, this makes the opportunity even more special, said new head coach Deon Washington.

Washington returns to his alma mater after spending the last three seasons as the head football coach at Greensboro High School. Prior to Greensboro, Washington was the inaugural women’s flag football coach at Central High School in 2021-2022. He also served as an assistant coach for football and baseball.
