President Donald Trump has endorsed U.S. Rep. John James, who is running for governor in Michigan. In a Truth Social post, the president declared his support for James, calling him an “America First Congressman” who will not let the people of Michigan down.
James Responds to Endorsement
James thanked Trump, referring to him as “The greatest President of my lifetime” in social media posts. After Trump issued the endorsement message, Michigan state Senate Minority Leader Aric Nesbitt dropped out of the Michigan Republican gubernatorial primary and endorsed James.
Nesbitt stated that the campaign has always been about the people of Michigan and standing with President Trump to defeat the Democrats in November. He asked his supporters to unite behind James, saying a divided primary would only help the Democrats.
Other Candidates React
Businessman Perry Johnson, who is also running in the Michigan Republican gubernatorial primary, suggested that the president had made the wrong move by backing James. Johnson pointed out that James is a two-time statewide loser and that Michigan has already seen this scenario play out before with Trump-backed candidates.
Former Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox also responded to the endorsement, stating that he has won Michigan twice by building a coalition of working Michiganders who are sick of being screwed by the elites. Cox expressed his support for Trump and looked forward to being the president’s favorite governor when he wins.
