New York Yankees ace Cam Schlittler brought the heat both on and off the field Friday, as he put a trolling Boston Red Sox fan on blast. Schlittler, 25, posted a career-high 13 strikeouts in six shutout innings in the Yankees’ 5-0 win over the Cincinnati Reds at Yankee Stadium and made sure his fastball stayed hot on social media.
Harassment from a Red Sox Fan
The Walpole, Massachusetts, native first drew the ire of the Red Sox fan before Game 3 of the AL Wild Card Game last season in October. He quieted the Red Sox hitters that night, striking out 12 hitters across eight scoreless innings, but the noise from Boston fans has only grown. After his start Friday, Schlittler exposed one fan who had crossed the line.
Schlittler screen-recorded all of the fan’s insults and posted them to his Instagram Story, captioning the post ‘Rent Free’ with two laughing emojis. The insults began the day of his Wild Card start, when a Red Sox fan with the Instagram handle ‘Kyle_Lynch11’ started chirping at Schlittler, calling him a clown.
