Residents and visitors of Casper, Wyoming, should prepare for temporary street closures as the city embarks on an exciting downtown lighting project. The Casper Downtown Development Authority has initiated a plan to enhance the ambiance of 2nd Street with new tree lighting, promising to add a year-round sparkle to one of the city’s main thoroughfares.
Street Closure Schedule
The project, managed by Tough Guys Landscaping & Lighting from Laramie, will involve temporary closures of portions of 2nd Street from May 26 through May 29, 2026. The closures will follow a rolling block schedule to minimize disruption:
- May 26-27: Durbin Street to Wolcott Street
- May 28: Wolcott Street to Center Street
- May 29: Center Street to David Street
During these dates, affected blocks will be closed to vehicle traffic, though sidewalk access will remain open whenever possible. Importantly, downtown businesses will continue to operate throughout the project, and parking will still be available in the Public Parking Garage.
Enhancing Downtown Casper
The 2nd Street Tree Lighting Project is viewed as a long-term investment in downtown Casper’s identity. By supporting walkability, extending evening activity, and strengthening the corridor as a destination for community gatherings and local commerce, the project aims to invigorate the local economy and enhance community life.
The Casper Downtown Development Authority encourages the community to continue supporting downtown businesses during the installation and appreciates everyone’s patience as this work progresses. With Casper’s busy summer lineup of events, concerts, and fun nights out, the new lighting will undoubtedly add to the downtown experience, providing another great reason to enjoy the city’s vibrant atmosphere.
