St. Norbert College athletes recently participated in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at UW-La Crosse’s Veterans Memorial Stadium. The event saw impressive performances from local athletes, highlighting the dedication and skill of these young competitors.
Pole Vault Achievements
In the pole vault event, Schermacher represented St. Norbert College with determination. He successfully cleared the initial heights of 15 feet 7 inches and 16-0 3/4 on his second attempts. Despite his efforts, he was unable to surpass the 16-4 3/4 mark. Washington (Mo.) University’s Peter Lichtenberger claimed the national championship on an attempts tiebreaker with a height of 17-2 3/4. Schermacher’s performance earned him second-team All-America honors with a 16th place finish.
Multi-Event Performance
Maranell, another standout athlete from St. Norbert, competed in the seven-event multi. She entered the second day in 13th place but made significant strides, finishing ninth with a total of 4,816 points. Her performance was just 18 points shy of reaching the podium and 71 points short of a sixth-place finish. Central College’s Olivia Bohlen won the national title with 5,158 points. Maranell’s efforts earned her second-team All-America honors.
Shot Put Competition
Junior Jacob Klitzke represented St. Norbert in the shot put event. Klitzke’s best throw was 50 feet 11 inches, achieved on his first attempt, which placed him 21st overall. His subsequent throws measured 50-5 3/4, and he scratched on his final attempt. The national title in this event was claimed by UW-Eau Claire’s Gage Stankiewicz with a throw of 61-7.
