Two boaters are missing after departing from Lake Helen, and a search is underway by the New Smyrna Beach Police Department’s Marine Unit, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.
Search Efforts
The two people were last seen and heard from around 6 a.m. Monday after departing from Lake Helen. Their vehicle and boat trailer were located at the Swoop Boat Ramp in New Smyrna Beach, police said. The boaters reportedly planned to fish approximately 30 miles offshore; however, it is currently unknown how far they ultimately traveled. They are believed to be aboard a white, 25-foot Carolina Classic vessel.
