A new shop in Highlandtown, Kawaii Vida, has opened its doors, offering a unique combination of coffee, Kawaii crafts, and claw machines. The shop, located at 430 S. Highland Avenue, features a Kawaii craft studio and latte bar upstairs, and a claw machine haven downstairs.
Kawaii Culture
Kawaii, a term from Japanese pop culture, embodies cuteness, youthful innocence, warmth, and playfulness. The shop’s owners, Valerie Nunez and Muhammad Sawwan, were inspired by their travels to Japan and wanted to share their love of Kawaii culture with their community.
The studio offers various artistic activities, including diamond painting and paint-by-number, which allow customers to take their artwork home the same day. The shop also sells phone cases, mirrors, hairclips, and custom items that can be decorated using deco cream, gems, and charms.
The latte bar features seven flavors, each available in espresso or matcha varieties. The shop also has a dessert menu, including Tres Leches cake and Kawaii macarons, with plans to expand the menu in the future.
