A Natchitoches man, Carlous Armstrong, 47, was found guilty of three counts of second-degree kidnapping and one count each of aggravated second-degree battery and aggravated assault upon a peace officer after a three-day trial in Natchitoches District Court.

Incident Details

Armstrong was arrested in May 2025 after he sped away from a traffic stop, then crashed his vehicle. He ran from the responding officers and carjacked a driver and passenger at gunpoint. They were later released unharmed.

Hours later, the stolen vehicle was found on Dogwood Court, and Armstrong was discovered inside a house, holding the homeowner hostage. Crisis negotiators talked to him for hours before he released the man, who suffered a scalp injury.

About four more hours passed before Armstrong surrendered without further incident. A loaded gun was found near the door.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bray Williams and Assistant District Attorney Jason Methvin on behalf of the Natchitoches Parish District Attorney’s Office. Judge Desiree Dyess presided and has scheduled sentencing for Aug. 25.
