French Open Begins with High Temperatures and Exciting Matches

The French Open commenced on a sunny Sunday, drawing fans to Roland Garros where the atmosphere was more reminiscent of the Riviera than a traditional claycourt event. The alleys were filled with the sounds of a violin rendition of Coldplay’s ‘Viva la Vida’, adding to the vibrant ambiance.

With temperatures soaring above 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), the matches began early at 0900 GMT (1100 local time). Russian player Karen Khachanov, seeded 13th, faced off against French hopeful Arthur Gea on Court Suzanne Lenglen. Meanwhile, Swiss player Belinda Bencic, seeded 11th, was set to open her match against Austria’s Sinja Kraus on Court Philippe Chatrier.

The tournament faced setbacks with the withdrawal of two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz due to a wrist injury and local favorite Arthur Fils, who withdrew on Saturday. Despite these withdrawals, the competition remains fierce.

Italian Jannik Sinner, currently the world number one, is a strong contender in the men’s draw. In the women’s draw, the competition appears wide open, promising exciting matches ahead.

Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic is on a quest for a record-breaking 25th Grand Slam title. He will begin his campaign against Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, known for his powerful serves, later in the day.

In the women’s matches, Russian eighth seed Mirra Andreeva will be the highest-seeded woman in action, taking on French wildcard Fiona Ferro. The tournament promises to deliver thrilling tennis action as players vie for the prestigious title.
