A flu outbreak at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland has resulted in at least 275 confirmed cases, according to U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro. The number of cases has increased by nearly 73% since last Thursday, when more than 150 military recruits tested positive for the flu.
Vaccination Policy Update
In April, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made vaccinations optional for all U.S. military personnel. However, due to the outbreak, the services have been given exceptions to this policy, and the Army, Navy, and Air Force are once again requiring flu shots for basic trainees.
