El Paso Prepares for Memorial Day Storms Amid Dry Start

El Paso, Texas, is set to experience a weather shift over the Memorial Day weekend. While Sunday promises mostly sunny skies and temperatures climbing into the lower 90s, residents should be prepared for potential changes as the day progresses. The Borderland will see weak high pressure over New Mexico and Arizona, contributing to the dry start.

However, as moisture levels rise throughout the afternoon, isolated thunderstorms may develop over the mountains. Those planning outdoor activities should enjoy the clear morning but remain vigilant for any stray mountain storms in the afternoon.

Memorial Day Weather Shift

The bigger weather story unfolds on Memorial Day, when scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to become widespread across the area. This change is due to an upper low moving from Baja into Arizona, bringing increased moisture and instability to the region.

By Tuesday, most of the region will return to dry conditions, although some lingering moisture may keep a chance of thunderstorms alive over Otero and Hudspeth Counties. The rest of the week, from Wednesday through Saturday, is expected to see a return of dry southwest flow aloft, bringing mostly clear skies and seasonable temperatures back to the Borderland.

Residents in El Paso can expect a high of 95°F today, while Las Cruces will see temperatures around 93°F. As always, it’s important to stay informed about local weather conditions, especially when planning outdoor activities over the holiday weekend.
