Bryan Torres Shines in Major League Debut as Cardinals Defeat Reds

Bryan Torres made a remarkable entrance into Major League Baseball, debuting at age 28 with a two-run homer that helped propel the St. Louis Cardinals to an 8-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. This game marked the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

Torres’ Journey to the Majors

Torres, who began his professional baseball journey in 2015, has had a long road to the majors. Initially signing a minor league contract with Milwaukee, he was later claimed by the San Francisco organization in 2019. After becoming a free agent in 2021, Torres spent two years with the independent Milwaukee Milkmen. His perseverance paid off when he signed with the Cardinals in 2023 and was added to their 40-man roster last November.

His performance in Triple-A Memphis, where he hit .336 with 10 doubles, two homers, 16 RBIs, and 10 stolen bases in 36 games, earned him a call-up to the majors. Torres’ debut was highlighted by a ninth-inning homer off a fastball from Jose Franco, adding to his earlier single and walk.

Game Highlights

In addition to Torres’ standout performance, Jordan Walker contributed with a two-run homer, and Andre Pallante delivered a strong pitching performance, allowing just one run and two hits over six innings. Pallante impressively retired his last 13 batters.

For the Reds, Nathaniel Lowe hit his seventh home run in the first inning, but the team struggled offensively, managing only two hits in the game. Chris Paddack, the Reds’ starting pitcher, allowed three runs, seven hits, and three walks over five innings.

The Cardinals extended their lead in the third inning with an RBI single from Alec Burleson and a run-scoring forceout by Walker. Walker’s 14th homer in the seventh inning further solidified the Cardinals’ lead.

Looking Ahead

The Cardinals were set to continue their momentum in the nightcap of the doubleheader, with RHP Kyle Leahy facing Reds RHP Chase Petty.
